Kevin called me the nekkid avenger this morning when the dog started barking at 7 am. He finally went down stairs to see what the commotion was about and then I heard the chickens squawking again. I jumped out of bed and looked out the window to see a fox ( edited to add that we figured out it was a Fisher) running around with one of my white chickens in his mouth. I streaked downs stairs (literally) and was yelling fox fox fox. Kevin didn't hear me since he was in the other room. I opened the back door and there was the fox (Fisher) trying to get out of our chicken pen. The fence is 6 feet tall and he was jumping up the sides (no chicken in his mouth now) and he finally made it up the fence and out. All the time Kevin is laughing at me. He said we got us a nekkid avenger. He said I thought you were going to run out side like that lol. I almost did.
well the damn fox (Fisher) didn't get away with any of the chickens but he killed one of our Buff Orpingtons and our White Silky roster. @##@$ Fox !!! So now we are setting a trap and this predator will be gone soon I hope. I also need to find another silky roster some time soon. Poor girls will be so upset with out their man and I will miss his crowing. Has anyone ever used predator pee ? I'm wondering how it works.

Oh, man, I'm sorry about your babies! Good for you, making him run off. We have fox around here but they haven't made it into the chicken house yet - thank goodness!
Terri
we have been trying to figure out how to get rid of the bugger. went to the feed store for wolf pee but found out they rent the right size trap so that's what we came home with. Put the dead chicken in it and covered it with leaves and now wait and hope that to fox (or fisher cat) goes in it tonight. We just can't have something like this eating the chickens we have fattened up for our own freezer. He needs a new home what ever it is.
Oh, dear Lisa, I wish I had been there to see you running "nekkid" out the door to the chicken house. You could have had fox steaks for supper - don't you know? Are your chickens laying eggs yet? We don't know jack about chickens. Your life must be a lot more exciting than ours!
I just am in awe that you updated your blog! Ha. Love that white chicken. Sorry about the fox, but they are beautiful in and of themselves, aren't they? Good luck.
Mom ~the chickens are still too young to be laying eggs yet but there are 8 broiler chickens I need to put in the freezer soon, I'm just putting off the dirty work because I don't like doing it.
Laurie~ hey it was updated 4 days before this update ! How often does one need to update to keep sister's happy ? lol well, yes, that was a beautiful chicken, now he needs to be buried. we decided it was a fisher cat after comparing notes. we got a trap from Agway and that fisher won't be bothering any animals around here if I have anything to do with it !! Foxes are cute too till they eat your cat. I like the wild life to stay in the woods and out of my yard. I like my 3 kitties and our little doggie that is snack size. I heard peeing around the chicken house by men keeps the animals away but none of my men will do it. Oh well, maybe we have a fisher in the trap this morning.
Good luck with the trap - that chicken was gorgeous! Score one for the Nekkid Avenger - what color is your cape???? I posted about your hat selection today - it's still a work in progress!
